United States: American culture is the one that has influence in the world, currently [1].Since the country's rise to the rank of world power, from the second world war, theirmovies, music, TV shows, sports, technology, cooking, architecture, fashion, science and lifestyle have become fundamental references in every country in the world. According to a survey of the best universities in the world by the Shanghai Jiao Tong University in2009, eight of the top ten universities in the world are Americans.
American literature, although not a global importance as large as his movies, for example, features world famous authors such as James Fenimore Cooper (1789-1851),Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803-1882), Edgar Allan Poe (1809-1849), Henry DavidThoreau (1817-1862), Herman Melville (1819-1891), Walt Whitman (1819-1892),Louisa May Alcott (1832-1888), Jack London (1876-1916), F. Scott Fitzgerald (1896-1940), William Faulkner (1897-1962), Ernest Hemingway (1899-1961), John Steinbeck(1902-1968), Ray Bradbury (1920-2012) and Jack Kerouac (1922-1969). In the field ofcooking, his greatest contribution to the world is fast food, food style which is characterized by the speed of preparation, availability and consumption. It is worth noting, too, the taste of the American Chinese food, coffee (the country is theworld's largest consumer of the product) and the influence of Mexican cuisine onMexico border, forming the typical Tex-Mex cuisine. Another foreign influence on the country's cuisine exists in Louisiana, where the population of French origin created atypical culinary nicknamed cajun (a term that comes from acadian, "Akkadian", of Akkad, Canadian region where the majority of immigrants came from Luisiania) that has, as typical ingredients, Norway lobster, crab, shrimp, alligator, pig, duck, Turkey, chicken, rice, corn, green pepper, onion, parsley, shallots, Bay leaves and chili.
The country produces distillates typical of corn (bourbon) and rye (rye). The State of California is famous for the quality of its wines. The Americans have three favorite sports: American football, baseball and basketball. Despite the country's cultural influence in the rest of the world, only the latter is widespread in the world. Americansalso appreciate the ice hockey. The skate, one of the most popular sports in the world today, was invented in the State of California, in the Decade of 1960, by surfers who wanted to practice their sport on days of few waves. Surfing, moreover, that, since time immemorial, was already practiced in Polynesia, spread worldwide thanks to the effortsof dissemination of the sport by Hawaiian Duke Paoa Kahanamoku, who was gold medalist in swimming at the 1912 Olympic Games in Stockholm.
The English language is the main language used in the country, while ethnic minoritiescontinue to use the languages of their countries of origin, such as Spanish, Chinese,Dutch, Japanese, filipino, Hawaiian, navajo, cherokee, the cree, the cheyenne, thechoctaw and ocreek. The languages of the American Indians exercised great influence on American toponyms ("Potomac", "Oklahoma", "Seattle", "Iowa", "Minnesota","Dakota", "Connecticut", "Michigan", "Milwaukee" etc.). It is worth noting that theEnglish used in the United States has different lexicon and pronunciation of the English language adopted in England. Is this American version of the English language thatspread in the world from the mid-20th century, and today, a sort of internationallingua franca.
